The Organization<\/h2>\n

The Gasp\u00e9sie-\u00celes-de-la-Madeleine Youth Commission\u2019s (GIMYC) or La Commission jeunesse Gasp\u00e9sie\u2013\u00celes-de-la-Madeleine (CJG\u00ceM) mission is to represent Gaspesian and Magdelan island youth, ages 12 to 35, to various partners and stakeholders. The organization helps get these young people to get involved in their communities. The GIMYC supports regional development projects that promote posterity and fosters new talent.<\/p>\n

The Youth Commission is made up of 2 employees, and 16 members of the board of administrators:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Je m\u2019appelle Camille Chapados, j\u2019ai 22 ans et je suis originaire de Rivi\u00e8re-Saint-Jean, un petit havre de paix situ\u00e9 entre Sept-\u00celes et Havre-Saint-Pierre.\u00a0Mes motivations \u00e0 rejoindre l\u2019\u00e9quipe de la commission jeunesse ? Le sentiment d\u2019appartenance que procure l\u2019occupation d\u2019un si\u00e8ge au sein d\u2019un organisme valorisant comme la CJGIM. C\u2019est aussi une porte d\u2019acc\u00e8s aux changements pour nous, les jeunes, sur le territoire. J\u2019ai envie de faire LA diff\u00e9rence et d\u2019apporter un changement positif sur les diff\u00e9rents enjeux qui touchent la client\u00e8le jeunesse.<\/p>\n

En tant qu’administrateur au sein de la Commission jeunesse G\u00ceM, je suis convaincu que la jeunesse d\u00e9tient un potentiel immense qui m\u00e9rite d’\u00eatre soutenu et valoris\u00e9. C’est avec enthousiasme que je m’engage aupr\u00e8s de la Commission Jeunesse pour participer \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de projets innovants et inspirants qui r\u00e9pondent aux besoins des jeunes de notre territoire.<\/p>\n

Je demeure \u00e0 New Richmond dans la Baie-des-Chaleurs et j’ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de m’impliquer au sein du CA de la commission parce que j’accorde une importance \u00e0 l’implication citoyenne et parce que j’ai la volont\u00e9 d’assurer une place \u00e0 la vision des jeunes dans le d\u00e9veloppement du territoire. Je suis passionn\u00e9e de plein air et d’aventures!<\/p>\n

Fran\u00e7aise de naissance mais gasp\u00e9sienne de c\u0153ur depuis 6 ans, il me tardait de pouvoir m’impliquer davantage dans cette belle communaut\u00e9. Faire partie du C.A est pour moi un privil\u00e8ge et une opportunit\u00e9 de pouvoir agir \u00e0 un autre niveau puisque nos voix et celles des jeunes que nous repr\u00e9sentons sont port\u00e9es en \u00e9quipe, \u00e0 travers toute la r\u00e9gion !<\/p>\n

The Youth Commission conducted a regional enquiry<\/strong> to determine and set priorities of investment by funds dedicated for youth groups and initiatives. The Youth Commission modified its administrative structure to allow for six members<\/strong> from each of the Regional County Municipalities to take part in various youth groups that form the committee (CJE, MDJ, PAJ,<\/em> local workers) Thanks to an additional $500 K investment from the FRIJ, the Fonds jeunesse Ren\u00e9-L\u00e9vesque<\/em> becomes a million dollar investment fund for the region\u2019s youth. The 2004 Grande S\u00e9duction of the Gasp\u00e9 region sets out with the goal of attracting new graduates and promoting a positive image of the Gasp\u00e9. Over a week, a tour of the major universities took place thanks to help from youth employment centres, Place aux jeunes<\/em> officers, the Fondation communautaire Gasp\u00e9sie-Les \u00celes<\/em>, and the Youth Commission<\/p>\n

At the Rassemblement Vision<\/strong> at St-Octave-de-l’avenir, 80 participants shared their views on the region\u2019s future. The government of Quebec tasks the Youth Commission to promote civic engagement in the region\u2019s young people. The Youth Commission and its partners establish the Cap sur l’avenir<\/strong> initiative. Unique to the region, this initiative helps the region\u2019s young people come back and stay in the region. The Youth Commission is a proud supporter of this regional initiative.<\/p>\n

2007<\/h4>\n

The 2007 Grande S\u00e9duction of the Gasp\u00e9 region takes place. This edition\u2019s innovative approach allowed 30 professionals to come stay a week to explore the area and to network with the region\u2019s employers. The Youth Commission collaborates with the G\u00e9rard-D.-Levesque Foundation, the Fondation communautaire Gasp\u00e9sie\u2013Les \u00celes<\/em>, and the government of Quebec, to create the G\u00e9rard-D.-Levesque Scholarship. This $500 K fund is used to develop grants and bursaries destined to the region\u2019s youth. Funds are given out based on a candidate\u2019s academic standing, their community engagement and their commitment to their studies. Creation of the local youth initiative fund (Fonds local d’initiative jeunesse<\/em>). This initiative, financed by the Youth Commission, and led by regional youth employment centres, financially supports young people engaged in group or individual projects. The first annual Gasp\u00e9sie et des \u00celes-de-la-Madeleine Day. This event took place in collaboration with regional youth institutions and the Youth Commission. The event put the region\u2019s dynamism and vitality on display, and celebrated the pride of the people living in the Gasp\u00e9 and the Magdalen Islands. The Youth Commission, in collaboration with regional youth institutions, successfully carried the first ever \u201cRegional Student Vaccine Tour\u201d (Tourn\u00e9e r\u00e9gionale du Vaccin)<\/em>. This initiative set out to \u201cinject a dose of regional belongingness\u201d to every high school and pre-university programme graduate, in the region.<\/p>\n

Creation of the Cap sur l’avenir 2009-2012 initiative. This programme\u2019s goal is to focus on maintaining an influx of skilled labour in the area. The Youth Commission, along with a dozen other partners, are sponsors of this major undertaking. Creation and implementation of the \u201clocal intervention for youth independence\u201d project (Moyen d’intervention local pour l’autonomie jeunesse<\/em> (MILAJ)). This project\u2019s goal is to support initiatives and activities that allow young people, ages 12 to 35, to become more independent. The Youth Commission is a financial sponsor for this project.
